Walton’s

on 19 September

They’ve done a nice job taking the boarder of their logo and using it as a consistent element throughout their branding.

HBO “AND” Color TV

on 08 September

Back in the day this motel would have been the place to stay in LA. A motel with HBO was a big deal, especially for those of us that didn’t have cable. This one is preserving a bit of nostalgia.

Mercantile

on 14 June

This one caught my eye in San Francisco with multiple sign shapes and nice typography.

No Slip Banana

on 26 May

This one may not be on a wall but, my favorite thing I saw at the LA Museum of Natural History was this cleaver and ironic “wet floor” sign. I love when design meets function.

The art of barricades

on 18 April

Levis chose to make their construction barricade on Market Street in SF an opportunity to bring art and color to the city instead of screaming “COMING SOON.”

Best 70’s Donuts

on 18 March

Luckily my favorite donut shop in Hermosa Beach puts all their effort into making the best donuts and not the decor. This has preserved their great 70’s signage on the wall.

Bigger in Texas

on 12 March

On a recent road trip from Indiana to California, Route 66 takes you through Amarillo, Texas where you can see classic hand-drawn signs like this one. Everything is bigger in Texas.

Vintage Schwinn Sign

on 08 March

On Hawthorne Blvd the other morning, I looked up and found this neon gem.
